Educational Psychology services for schools and Local Authorities in the North West of England.

My name is Alice Wignall and I am a private Educational Psychologist based in Southport, Merseyside.

About Me

I provide support for children and young people across the North West, including Sefton, Lancashire, Liverpool and Cheshire. I carry out work commissioned by schools and Local Authorities, and love to develop ongoing relationships with settings over time.

Before working independently, I trained and worked within a Local Authority Educational Psychology Service for six years, and prior to that I was a primary school teacher and SENCo.

I am registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC) and have undertaken further training in several areas, including Non-Violent Resistance (NVR Level 2), Motivational Interviewing, Emotional-Based School Avoidance and TheraPlay.

Services

  • I provide assessments for children for a range of purposes, including children in the early years, primary school, secondary school and children who are Cared For by the Local Authority. I can also provide reviews for children with an existing EHCP, such as to inform a change in provision.

I can also provide other types of support for schools, including training, parent workshops and drop-in sessions. Please contact me if you would like to discuss something specific that your setting is looking for.

  • I work directly with schools and academy trusts, providing individual assessments, consultations and training for staff. I can develop individualised packages of support to schools to provide a range of support over a year. This is then built into my capacity to guarantee availability for that setting and includes planning meeting time with school staff to map out support. I enjoy working with schools over time and building relationships with staff.

  • I provide statutory assessments for Local Authorities as part of the Education, Health and Care Needs Assessment process.

I am able to complete assessments for children in Lancashire where the Local Authority has agreed to reimburse the cost of a private Educational Psychology assessments. Please contact me for more details.

  • At present, individual assessments range from £800 to £1200 depending on the type of assessment being sought and location.

Please note that due to capacity I do not currently complete work commissioned directly by parents.

  • I work closely with a number of schools through ongoing agreements, which means most of my availability is reserved in advance each term. Any remaining sessions are offered on a first come, first served basis. I am generally fully booked around a term in advance, but I sometimes have cancellation slots available so please do get in touch and I will see what I can do!

  • Alice has worked at our primary school for a number of years and became a valued member of our school team.  She recognises and understands the complex needs of our school and shares our vision.  She sees the whole child, is thorough and takes time to listen and support on every level.

Primary School and Resourced Provision SENCo

  • Alice goes above and beyond to champion children and provide staff and parents/carers with the knowledge, understanding and strategies to ensure children achieve their full potential. She is approachable and always provides comprehensive reports which enable us to support children in meeting their academic and social and emotional needs. Nothing is ever too much trouble!

    Sefton School SENCo

  • Alice is extremely knowledgeable in her field and understands the differing neurodiverse needs of children.  Any assessment has been thorough, professional and always gives numerous recommendations to support the student.  She forms excellent relationships with parents, which allows them to feel comfortable enabling them to talk freely about their child.  I would not hesitate to recommend Alice as an Educational Psychologist to work with your school.

    Primary School SENCo

  • Alice has been a most reassuring presence as our school’s Educational Psychologist for some years. She has the ability to relate effortlessly with children, staff and parents/carers.  She will prove an enormous asset to any school fortunate enough to secure her services.

    Headteacher

  • Alice was extremely professional and a delight to work with from our first contact via email through to the in-person EP assessment. Alice made all stakeholders feel comfortable with her approachable and caring nature. She gave excellent support and advice, and the report was excellently written, capturing the child perfectly. We hope to work with Alice in the future and would highly recommend her to any school.
